Kathleen Tucker

BIOGRAPHY

Kathleen began painting the beautiful land and seascapes of southwestern Alaska in the late 1970's from her home in Ketchican. She later moved south to Oregon where she raised her family, served in the Army Reserve and enjoyed a fulfilling career as owner/director of a ballet school. For recreation she pursued the sport of mountain climbing. Through these years her responsibilities to her family and careers grew, so she eventually stopped painting.

Upon retirement from both the military and her career as a dancer, she and her husband literally "sailed off into the sunset" on their 36foot ketch. They first sailed north to Alaska, then south to Mexico and across the Pacific, visiting many beautiful tropical islands, and finishing thier trip in New Zealand. Life on a small boat was too "compact" to accommodate painting but for six years of cruising, Kathleen filled her soul with the warm brignt beauty of the South Pacific and infuses that insprition into her current art in her TROPICAL ISLAND series of paintings as well as her murals and mosaics.

The Tuckers now make their home on the Alabama coast. The warm white sands, golden sea oats and rich blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico are accented in her GULF COAST BEACHES series. Kathleen's line of SEA BIRDS paintings explores the great birds found in lower Alabama's bays and lagoons. She is currently developing a series of contemporary paintings, JUST COLOR, because of the freedom they present for her to use the vibrant colors she loves.

Kathleen participates in art shows and festivals all along the Gulf Coast. She won First Place in 2006 PIAA Membership Show with a graphite portrait of her father. Mrs. Tucker is the former president of the Pleasure Island Art Association.
